Vitamin D and staying at home

During the outbreak and with the advise for staying at home, there has been concerns of Vitamin D intake

Although this can be found in food, we get a great amount from sunlight. Due to us staying at home, it would be ideal to take a vitamin supplement,

  2. Vitamin D is an extremely important vitamin that has powerful effects on several systems throughout your body, I think people aren't talking enough about this topic since isolation started. Thanks for pointing it out.

  3. It's also found in certain foods such as fatty fish and fortified dairy products, though it's very difficult to get enough from diet alone. But since we are not able to get it from sun, it is a nice alternative.

  4. Is it safe to take vitamins when you don't know are you deficient or not? I would like to take vitamin D pills, since i have a really light skin and i burn whenever i go out.

    1. Personally I wouldn't recommend Vitamin D tablets unless due to various changes, i.e pregnancy, but nothing wrong with deciding to take a multivitamin, there is no harm, however please note that this DOES NOT REPLACE food, still important to consume wide variety of foods from the eatwell plate.

  5. I take a vitamin D everyday, and I think it’s especially important during the winter months. A lot of our food are fortified, and most orange juices have calcium and vitamin D in them…But sometimes you can still be deficient even with sun exposure if you have pigmented skin. I take a low dose, and have had no problems.

    1. Hi Tomezzz, thank you very much for your comment, taking a vitamin D supplement is fine, what I would also advise is not to neglect the food aspect, because that would also "boost" the amount of vitamin D you are having on a daily basis. Taking supplements in conjunction with food is great for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
