Had to review this...

I know I was not going to do any more posts into food reviews at Restaurants, but  I really needed to review this one, as it is in line with me trying to review and and consume meat alternatives. So a few weeks ago I went to this Japanese based restaurant with a friend called Kineya Mugimaru, in Kings Cross, London. It was relatively easy to find, as it was located within the other popular food places like Marks n Spencer as well as Greggs (from what I can remember)

I would say before going to look up the menu online first, (Menuas the menu at the venue was on a touch screen near to the order line. So if you do not know what you are ordering and was looking at the screen, you would technically be holding up the que, because the only way to order was using the touch screen. Because of this, and for time reasons I had to quickly look at the menu, so I just looked at the pictures. The picture that really jumped at me was the Pumpkin Katsu Curry with rice. I have had chicken katsu curry plenty of times at other restaurants, so it was something that I was familiar with. However I have never tried the pumpkin version. I was excited and keen as I do like to try new meals. So I ordered this and it came within 10 minutes. The whole meal was delicious, I could really taste the flavour of spring onions, and  the pickled ginger.  I also ordered a starter which I think was the prawn tempura which was also nice, and really crunchy.

So why did I pick Pumpkin Katsu Curry with rice? well it was because of the nutritional benefits of course!

White rice is packed full of carbohydrates, which we need for energy. We need energy to keep us moving around, especially if we lead an active lifestyle. The more active we are, the more carbohydrates we need to burn off those calories. We even need energy when we are in bed (yes you read that correctly!) as our body is always using energy, so we need food to help keep up with this. White rice is a great example of this, but other food contains energy like bread, cereals, porridge, pasta, as well as potatoes. So try to get plenty of carbohydrates from the examples I have given. Roughly we need about a third of carbohydrates for our daily intake everyday. Pumpkin on the other hand contains a range of nutritional benefits:

  • helps to control and regulate blood pressure and cholesterol- Have a look back at my previous posts into the reasons why it is important to control this (Cholesterol)
  • Rich in Fibre- I previously discussed this also in my previous posts, on the importance of eating foods rich in fibre (Fibre)
  • Helps to improve the immune system- We need to have a great immune system to help to maintain our bodies when we have colds or flu. Of course we will get colds and flu, but the lengths of time it takes to get rid of this all depends on our immune system, we only have one immune system so it is important to maintain this, and give it the requirements it needs, and then it can take care of us when that time comes.
  • Pumpkin also contains Vitamin A (helps to improve night vision) and Vitamin C (supports the immune system)
I would recommend Kineya, as there are a few options to try, which I will go back to try these myself.
