Restaurant Review Las Iguanas
I had to review my experience at the food restaurant Las Iguanas as I think it is one of those restaurants that has a range of food options, even for people that would like to eat something nutritious like myself, plus I have never been to the restaurant before.
When I arrived, I looked at the menu which was packed full of options. There are menus from Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, including Cuba, so I was really spoilt for choice. Some of the food was a bit alien to me, so I decided to look at the foods that I recognised like chili con carne etc. I saw that there were enchiladas from Mexico, so I was definitely going for that. But then I noticed that there was a vegetarian option which contained a range of vegetables. As I am trying to go for vegetarian options for health and sustainability reasons I decided to go for that option.
I was surprised to see the size of the meal when it arrived, which included the rice as a side dish. The enchiladas contained butternut squash, kidney beans, spinach and red peppers. This is a nutritious meal for the following reasons:
Butternut Squash is a great source of fibre, plus this vegetable is also packed with other great nutrients like Vitamin A, as well as Vitamin C. Vitamin A helps to improve the function of various organs, as well as to improve our vision. Vitamin C helps to grow, develop and repair all of the body tissues.
Spinach similar to butter nut squash also has great nutritional benefits for example fibre, for efficient movement of the bowel, Vitamin K and Potassium. Vitamin K is a great contributor to heart health as well as assisting with bone clotting and bone development. Potassium is another important mineral which helps with efficiency of the kidneys, nerve transmission as well as muscle contraction.
Kidney Beans, another great source of fibre, plus they are also low in saturated fat, which is great for heart health. They contain folate, which is part of the vitamin B family, and helps to boost red blood cell production. Amongst other minerals it also contains magnesium which helps to regulate the nervous system and improve brain health.
The rice side dish contains carbohydrates which is great for energy production, something that we need on a daily basis, as we are constantly moving around.
I also forgot to add that I ordered a small portion of plantain, again packed with great nutritional benefits. I discussed plantain on a previous blog which I will link it in here: Plaintain
I usually have a pudding when I go out to eat at restaurants, however on this occasion I had to skip this as I was so full from consuming the enchiladas.
Overall, yes, it is something that I would definitely recommend, there are other meals available which I will try if I get another opportunity.
